Advanced filtering

June 12th, 2006

We’ve introduced a new feature for premium subscribers — advanced filtering. The filtering allows you to include or exclude items based on the link title or URL. For example, if your feed is monitoring a forum and you want to exclude items that have the word “advertisement” in the title, this will allow you to do so.

To use the filtering, login to the Ponyfish control panel, click on the feed you want to edit, and click on “Advanced link filtering”.

Also new for premium subscribers is a “Update your feed now” link on the edit page that will enable you to manually refresh your feed if needed.

Fixing problems with session IDs

June 6th, 2006

If you’ve created a Ponyfish feed that contains links with session IDs, you’ve probably experienced the problem where the session ID changes each time your feed is updated. The consequence is that your feed reader thinks it’s a brand new item every time.

You’ll now find a fix for this on the edit page for your feed in the control panel, where you can tell Ponyfish to strip out the session IDs for each link. More detailed instructions can be found in the FAQ.

Editing your feed settings

May 23rd, 2006

Improved functionality to edit your feed settings is now live. You can see the functionality if you log in to your control panel, then click on the “Edit” link next to your feed. From there, you can do a number of things:

  • Change the web page URL - use this if the URL Ponyfish is watching has changed since you first setup your feed.
  • Change the feed header - use this to change the feed title and description, which is commonly looked at by feed reader software.
  • Modify the link search - use this if you don’t think Ponyfish is picking up all the links on the page it’s watching, or if you otherwise want to tweak which links should be included in your feed.

As always, if you experience any problems with the new functionality, or have ideas you want to send our way, feel free to contact us.
